The Education Developer plays a key role within the Faculty of Science by designing and developing high-quality learning resources, curriculum, assessment, workshops and educational processes that support effective and innovative learning and teaching. The role provides specialist educational advice and contributes to Faculty strategic priorities, including through expertise in one or more priority areas of educational practice.
The role works collaboratively with academic and professional staff to design, develop and enhance learning activities, resources, assessments, curricula, modules, programs and courses, supporting the implementation of Faculty and University learning and teaching strategies and strategic priorities.

Specific responsibilities for this role include:
- Design, develop and enhance high-quality learning and teaching resources, including online and blended learning materials, learning activities, modules, course resources, staff guidance and supporting documentation, applying evidence-informed educational design principles.
- Partner with academic staff on curriculum and course design and renewal, providing specialist educational advice to support coherent curriculum structures, constructive alignment, student engagement and achievement of course and program learning outcomes.
- Provide specialist advice on assessment design and practice, including authentic assessment, assessment for learning, feedback strategies, academic integrity, inclusive assessment and appropriate use of educational technologies.
- Design and facilitate professional learning workshops, communities of practice and other capability-building activities for academic and professional staff on contemporary approaches to learning, teaching, assessment and curriculum design.
- Develop, document and improve education development processes, frameworks, templates, guidelines and resources that enable consistent, efficient and high-quality approaches to learning and teaching across the Faculty.
- Contribute to the implementation of Faculty and University education strategies and strategic priorities, translating strategic objectives into practical initiatives, resources, processes and approaches that can be adopted by Schools and teaching teams.
- Lead or contribute to defined education development projects and initiatives, coordinating activities, stakeholders, timelines and deliverables and providing specialist input to achieve agreed outcomes.
- Provide consultation and specialist educational advice to academic and professional staff, identifying appropriate pedagogical approaches and solutions based on the educational context, student cohort, delivery mode and intended learning outcomes.
- Apply inclusive and accessible education design principles to the development of curriculum, assessment, learning activities and resources, supporting equitable participation and learning outcomes for diverse student cohorts.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of educational initiatives, resources and practices, using student, staff and learning data, feedback and relevant evidence to inform recommendations and continuous improvement.
- Identify, evaluate and support the adoption of emerging approaches, tools and practices in higher education, contributing to innovation and continuous improvement in learning and teaching.
- Build effective working relationships with Schools, academic staff, professional teams and relevant University stakeholders, contributing educational expertise to collaborative projects, working groups and communities of practice.
- Contribute to reporting, evaluation and communication activities relating to education development projects, strategic initiatives and learning and teaching priorities.
- Maintain contemporary knowledge of higher education pedagogy, educational research and sector developments, applying relevant evidence and good practice to educational development activities.
- Develop and maintain recognised specialist expertise in at least one Faculty or University priority area, providing advice, resources, professional development and project support within that area. Priority specialisations may include:

- Act as a Faculty resource and subject matter specialist within the nominated priority area, building capability in others and contributing to Faculty-wide initiatives, guidance and good-practice approaches.

About the successful applicant
(Selection criteria)
To be successful in this role you will have:
- Relevant degree with extensive relevant experience, or equivalent competency gained through any other combination of education, training or experience in a higher education organisation.
- Extensive experience in educational design and/or development, including end-to-end course design following constructive alignment principles and a strong understanding of the Technology-Enabled Learning and Teaching (TELT) and Universal Design for Learning (UDL) landscape.
- Strong collaboration skills with the ability to support and motivate team members through change and ambiguity. Demonstrated experience in driving innovation and process improvement initiatives in a complex environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a high level of attention to detail for deliverables produced.
- Sound stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence senior management and liaise effectively with a range of stakeholders to ensure successful outcomes.
- Excellent time management skills, with a demonstrated ability to respond to changing priorities, manage multiple tasks and meet competing deadlines by using judgement and initiative.
- An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
- Knowledge of health & safety (psychosocial and physical) responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
