Remuneration: Broadband 7/8, Level 7 from $113,926/Level 8 from $127,351.

Why Your Role Matters:
The Defence Security Specialist plays a vital role in ensuring UNSW continues to meet its Defence Industry Security Program (DISP) obligations, as the University’s key representative for Defence security matters in relation to the Australian Defence Force Academy (ADFA) contract and research operations from the ADFA site.

 

Accountabilities:

The DSS is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining security processes and plans in accordance with the Defence Security Principles Framework (DSPF) and aligned with operational needs and contractual obligations.  This position requires project management and analytical skills to identify and mitigate security risks and influence a positive security culture. The DSS liaises with various stakeholders of all levels across UNSW and the Department of Defence.

 

Who You Are (skills and experience): 

  • Relevant qualifications and experience in a discipline such as National security, protective security, project management, contract administration or risk management.
  • High level knowledge and ability to provide advice to personnel on DISP compliance in alignment with the DSPF and contractual obligations.
  • Demonstrated experience in business process analysis and coordinating project delivery and workplace change.
  • The ability to provide direction, independently consult, influence, and negotiate with a variety of stakeholders, including Defence personnel.
  • Demonstrate expertise in evaluation, management and implementation of changes to business practices to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Ability to work on highly sensitive and confidential matters and maintain integrity and information security.
  • Highly advanced communication skills.

Eligibility: 
The successful candidate will be required to undertake pre-employment checks prior to commencement in this role. The checks that will be undertaken are listed in the Position Description. You will not be required to provide any further documentation or information regarding the checks until directly requested by UNSW.  

To be successful you must be an Australian citizen to be able to meet AGSVA eligibility requirements for a Baseline security clearance.
