About the International Centre for Future Health Systems:

The International Centre for Future Health Systems is a newly established research, policy and advocacy initiative based at the University of New South Wales, with links to the University of Oxford, and supported by The Ian Potter Foundation, that aims to improve health systems to deliver equitable, sustainable and person-centred health care for all people. The Centre focuses ten years or more from now to explore what health systems should look like to best meet community needs. The Centre has adopted a truly interdisciplinary approach that includes not only experts from the health sector, but also from other disciplines including genomics, computer science, biotechnology, law and ethics, business and economics, social science and more.

Why Your Role Matters:

As a Research Associate/Senior Research Associate in Genomics and Future Health Systems, you will be expected to carry out both independent and collaborative team research on aspects of clinically relevant genomics and future health systems, contributing to the research effort of the International Centre for Future Health Systems whilst maintaining strong links with researchers in the Faculty of Science. You would be expected to form strong links with the Ramaciotti Centre for Genomics.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Maintaining a strong linkage to researchers in the Faculty of Science, especially those doing clinically relevant genomics and the bioinformatics thereof.
  • Interface with clinicians and NSW Health to streamline genomic technology adoption and highlight clinical needs to the Ramaciotti Centre for Genomics.
  • Contributing to the development of applications for competitive funding under the guidance of senior colleagues.
  • Participating as a co-investigator or chief investigator in competitive grant applications or show evidence of active participation in research collaborations funded by competitive grants.
  • Designing research projects.
  • Mentoring and guiding students and colleagues and develop the next generation of academics through involvement in supervision of HDRs

Who You Are:

To be considered at a level A:

  • A PhD in a related discipline, and/or relevant work experience.
  • Proven commitment to proactively keep up to date with knowledge and developments in clinical genomics and future health systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to undertake high quality academic research in clinically relevant genomics and related bioinformatics, including literature reviews and rapid evidence synthesis, and conduct independent research with limited supervision.
  • Demonstrated track record of publications and conference presentations relative to opportunity.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team, collaborate across disciplines and build effective relationships.
  • Evidence of highly developed interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and interact with a diverse range of stakeholders and students.

To be considered at a level B (in addition to the above):

  • Demonstrated track record in clinically relevant genomics research with outcomes of high quality and high impact with clear evidence of the desire and ability to continually achieve research excellence as well as the capacity for research leadership.
  • A track record of significant involvement with the health profession and/or health-related industries.
  • High level communication skills and ability to network effectively and interact with a diverse range of students and staff from different research disciplines.
