The Principal Adobe Engineer – Digital Solutions position is responsible for providing enterprise-wide leadership in activation, orchestration and optimisation of customer experiences across UNSW’s digital ecosystem, working primarily on the Adobe Experience Cloud suite and emerging technologies. The role leads how digital, marketing, and customer data platforms are applied to deliver personalised, data driven experiences across channels, enabling content, campaigns, journeys, analytics, and lifecycle engagement to operate as a cohesive capability. The position is accountable for the direction, standards, and governance of customer data, identity, and personalisation platforms, ensuring alignment with UNSW’s digital transformation strategy and business priorities. The Principal Adobe Engineer champions contemporary engineering practices, including Agile delivery and controlled configuration management and environment promotion, and leverages digital platforms to deliver secure, scalable and data‑driven experiences for UNSW. The Principal Adobe Engineer provides deep technical expertise in customer data, identity, and personalization platforms, and leads solution design, implementation, and optimisation across these capabilities. The Principal Adobe Engineer reports to the Digital Delivery Lead and has no direct reports.

Accountabilities:

  • Providing technical leadership for the implementation and optimisation of Adobe Experience Platform (AEP), Adobe Journey Optimizer (AJO), and related customer data, identity, and personalisation platforms.
  • Define and govern enterprise-wide architectural standards and policies for digital platforms, ensuring scalability, security, and alignment with UNSW’s digital transformation strategy.
  • Perform development testing across business processes and platform solutions, defining test scenarios and executing and analysing results.
  • Collaborate with Testing and Analysis colleagues throughout delivery to support outcomes and ensure solutions meet intended business outcomes, while driving quality assurance practices and contributing to enterprise-level assurance frameworks.
  • Write and implement efficient code and thorough documentation, enforcing standards and practices with the digital platforms team in an Agile / Test Driven Development. Assess solution options / approaches and document technical specification.
  • Provide expert technical guidance and thought leadership to cross-functional teams, influencing platform usage, journey design, and activation strategies to achieve business outcomes.
  • Lead technical incident response and root cause analysis, ensuring lessons learned inform future improvements and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Support data governance practices and compliance requirements across Adobe platforms, working with architecture and governance teams where required.
  • Conduct performance tuning, security assessments, and ensure solutions adhere to university wide cybersecurity policies and threat mitigation strategies.
  • Maintain up to date knowledge of industry trends to identify novel solutions and frameworks and share this knowledge and recommendations with the team to incorporate into digital solutions and platforms.

Who you are:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification with subsequent relevant experience or equivalent competence gained through any combination of education, training and experience.
  • Adobe certification preferred.
  • Extensive engineering / development experience in at least one or more of the Adobe products listed above, with demonstrated leadership of enterprise-scale implementations.
  • Exposure to JavaScript, HMTL, CSS, Python, SQL and RESTful APIs preferred.
  • Hands-on experience with data management, audience segmentation and personalisation strategies.
  • High-level proficiency in working with data layers, tag management systems and tracking implementations, within complex, multi-system environments
  • Strong understanding of customer data platforms, identity resolution and omnichannel marketing and their application within a large-scale organisation
  • Extensive experience with cloud technologies, data pipelines and enterprise data governance principles. This includes automated testing / deployment for managing pipeline code and infrastructure.
  • Experience working with Agile and other delivery methodologies and applying best practices, with demonstrated experience leading large cross-functional delivery teams.
  • Developed time management skills, with a demonstrated ability to respond to changing priorities and take on competing deadlines by using judgement and initiative.
  • Highly developed stakeholder engagement, consultation, influencing and negotiation skills, with a strong track record of building effective relationships and achieving successful outcomes across diverse groups.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and organisational skills, with the ability to exercise initiative and sound judgement, manage changing priorities, balance multiple tasks, and deliver robust solutions within competing deadlines.
  • An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of health & safety (psychosocial and physical) responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training. Pre employment checks required for this position
