Why your role matters

Research Technology (ResTech) Services play a pivotal role in enabling researchers to achieve impactful outcomes at UNSW. As part of the University’s broader Digital Research Infrastructure, these services encompass Research Computing, Research Data, Software, and Community Services and tools.

The Manager, Research Data, Software and Community is responsible for the strategic planning, development, and delivery of these services and tools. This senior role provides subject matter expertise in best practices for Research Data Management and supports the advancement of Research Technology Services in alignment with the University’s strategic research goals. You will collaborate closely with researchers to facilitate the effective use of UNSW’s digital research infrastructure and will represent UNSW in national research infrastructure initiatives.

This position reports to the Executive Director, ResTech, who supports the PVC Research Infrastructure, and oversees a team of five direct reports.

Who you are

You bring a combination of relevant tertiary qualification and or practical experience, enabling you to effectively manage a production research data environment or service to agreed standards. You’re comfortable navigating complex environments, with a proven track record of managing diverse programs of work and engaging with a wide range of stakeholders. Your experience in research data management includes providing user support, optimising workflows, and mitigating data-related risks. You’ve worked closely with researchers to implement data solutions tailored to project needs and contributed to large-scale, university or national-level initiatives.

You’re adept at prioritising in dynamic settings, juggling multiple projects, and using your analytical and planning skills to drive both strategic and operational outcomes. A continuous improvement mindset and strong business acumen allow you to influence outcomes across all levels of the organisation. Your approach is ethical, innovative, and stakeholder-focused, supported by strong interpersonal and negotiation skills. You work collaboratively in team settings while maintaining the initiative and independence to manage competing demands. You also understand and align with UNSW’s mission and values and are committed to health and safety responsibilities and training.
