Why Your Role Matters 

The Manager, Examinations Team plays a key role within Student Lifecycle in providing high-level advice on strategic and operational matters. This role will utilise their depth of knowledge and expertise across all aspects of the student lifecycle. 

The Manager, Examinations is expected to have a broad range of knowledge and expertise across all matters relating to the Student Lifecycle but act as the UNSW expert on all matters relating to the management and execution of examinations at UNSW. The role has responsibility for the management, planning and execution of all UNSW end of term examinations and supplementary examinations, in a way which enhances the image of UNSW.   

The role reports to Head of Student Lifecycle and has six direct reports. This is a replacement role – full time ongoing. 

More about the role 

  • Plan, schedule, manage and deliver end of term examination sittings, including supplementary examinations 

  • Take a lead role in the ongoing development and implementation of the digital assessment strategy 

  • Provide quality support and advice regarding the effective use, capabilities and constraints of the digital assessment tool(s) to inform prioritisation, delivery and maintenance activities 

  • Develop efficient and effective work practices and assist in the development and implementation of policies and procedures, IT, business and management systems that enable the team to provide high quality services to students and staff 

  • Have responsibility for the management of the examinations budget 

  • Be responsible for the development of examination communications to staff and students 

  • Develop and manage relationships with key stakeholders such as academic and professional staff across the University, so that examination policies, procedures and processes can be effectively managed and enhanced 

  • Manage work to ensure a cooperative and effective working environment that contributes to positive internal and external working relationships 

  • Provide reports, statistics and analysis and make recommendations to the Deputy Vice Chancellor Education & Student Experience and other key stakeholders 

  • Provide leadership, support and coaching to the team, developing a highly customer-focused team, with demonstrated commitment to excellence and continuous improvement  

Who You Are 

We are looking for someone who has excellent organizational skills, who is aligned with UNSW’s vision and comes with: 

  • Demonstrated success in leading and managing examination events 

  • Demonstrated success managing, coaching and developing a team of staff through change within an administrative and/or service environment 

  • Proven ability to exercise initiative, think strategically and creatively, and adopt an active approach to problem-solving 

  • Exposure to digital assessment tools 

  • Substantial experience in business improvement activities and leading change activities  

  • Strong track record of managing difficult situations effectively, including the escalation of stakeholder complaints 

  • Demonstrated ability to work accurately and with attention to detail.  

  • High-level experience developing, interpreting and applying policy and procedure documents 

  • Demonstrated experience managing high volume workflows and meeting deadlines 

  • Proven ability to influence senior management and stakeholders as appropriate to ensure successful outcomes 

Working hours are generally Monday to Friday, business hours. During exam periods (3 times per year), full onsite presence, with Saturday and evening work, is required. The rest of the year, the role is hybrid. We’d like to have the successful candidate start as soon as possible.   

Candidates will need to have ongoing working rights – this role is not available for sponsorship.
